About me…
Hello!
My name is Rachel (she/her) and I was born in Morocco. I am of English and Asian heritage and moved to the UK at the age of 5 after my parents wanted to settle down. We lived in the USA for a few years between Morocco and England, so I struggle to know where exactly it is that “I come from”. I know I come from a family of jet-setters whose careers based themselves in an international lifestyle and whilst I do love to travel, I have found much solace in finally settling down in the beautiful Welsh countryside.
I grew up in Salisbury, Wiltshire and went to University in Bath. I did a few small stints in London and Dubai, neither of which were for me, and returned to Bath before meeting my husband. I am a countryside girl at my very core.
I am married to a chiropractor and we have a beautiful daughter together. We also have 3 furry babies, Ralph and Mabel (cats) and Otis (Labrador); the latter of whom I talk about a lot as we spend a lot of time outside together. I love my little family unit and I will definitely ask to see photos of your pets, too.
I am interested in all things photography, art and cinematography. My undergraduate degree was in Photography and Digital Media. I chose to become a Secondary Teacher of Art and Design shortly after my BA and pursued a career in teaching for 11 years.
After my own journey of therapy to unpick some childhood trauma, in my late 20s, I decided to study Counselling and Psychotherapy at USW. I graduated in 2023 with a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and opened my private practice in 2025. I spent 2 years between working part-time still as a teacher, whilst part-time as a Primary School Counsellor for a local service.
When I’m not at work, you will most likely find me in the snack aisle in a supermarket, wondering what to ‘treat myself’ to, a park with my daughter or a woodland walk with Otis. I enjoy reformer pilates and social league netball but outdoor walking is where I get most of my joy. My husband and I both share love for travel, good food and great friends. There probably isn’t a coffee shop in South Wales that we have not yet descended upon. We are both suckers for a pastry and an iced latte.
As a natural creative, I enjoy working creatively in therapy. I can offer you creative tools and activities within our sessions that you are more than obliged to turn away if you wish. I believe that when words fail us, colours, shapes, materials and expression can help us to access the subconscious and dig into what’s lying underneath. This can be so helpful in many ways, but is always up to you. Sometimes talking is all we need.
About my practice…
I work in the new Wellbeing Hub in Mamhilad Park Estate, within a 10-mile radius of Abergavenny, Usk, Newport, Cwmbran and Pontypool. I also work online via Microsoft Teams for those seeking support from further afar.
I know that reaching out for counselling can feel overwhelming. Many people arrive here feeling lost, burnt out, or shaken by experiences they never expected to face. My role is to offer you a space where you can feel safe, heard, and genuinely seen. I work with warmth, empathy, and complete confidentiality, creating a therapeutic environment grounded in trust and authenticity.
Before becoming a full-time therapist, I spent 11 years working across state and private education sectors in various roles from ALN support through to Subject Lead of Art and Design. This experience has given me deep insight into toxic workplace cultures, burnout, and the impact of adverse childhood experiences. I have worked with children and young people from all walks of life. My academic research focused on narcissistic abuse, coercive control, and childhood trauma—areas in which I now regularly support clients who are navigating or healing from these often complex dynamics.
My clinical experience includes working with adults facing workplace stress, burnout, domestic and sexual abuse, anxiety, grief, depression, suicidal ideation, ADHD, ASD and adverse childhood experiences. I also work with children and young people between the ages of 7 and 18, supporting them through emotional and relational challenges.
As an integrative therapist, I draw from a wide range of therapeutic modalities, choosing the approaches that best support you as an individual. No two people are the same, so the way we work together won’t be either. Our sessions are collaborative, empowering, and rooted in building a strong, supportive relationship - because healing happens most effectively when you feel safe enough to be your real self.
If you feel that working together may be the right next step for you, I would love to connect. Please feel free to book an initial consultation via the ‘Book a Session’ tab or reach out via the ‘Contact’ page.
Thank you for being here and reading my page. I hope you find the courage to reach out.
